We employ over 30 people during our peak season and have over 50 trucks, trailers and pieces of equipment.

Our History
Kirk Sonnenberg began his career by mowing lawns and working on an asphalt crew. During this time he always wanted something more. After a few years of saving money he ventured out on his journey. Kirk founded Sonnenberg Asphalt Company in 1983 on the belief that hard work, integrity, and a dedication to customer satisfaction would promote success. He started by sealing driveways using a pickup truck and a 55-gallon drum. After a few years he bought a used dump truck, roller, and an asphalt paver. Today Sonnenberg’s has state of the art Asphalt equipment to ensure the highest quality finished product possible along with a crew that has a combined over 100+ years of experience.
After developing a successful asphalt company, in 1991 Kirk wanted to expand. He had a vision for a landscape material yard. The same year Kirk formed a landscape installation crew. As the demand grew so did the inventory and business has continued to thrive through the present day. Our products are hand picked and designed so that our customers can bring their dream to fruition. Perfect for the do-it- yourself customers as well as for our own landscaping crews. The installation team continues to grow and provides cutting-edge design and services to ensure our customers have the highest quality job possible.
In 2007, Sonnenbergs expanded and purchased a 6-acre property in Columbia, Illinois with the same basic principles in mind. Both our Belleville and Columbia locations offer a wide variety of landscaping products and both have beautiful displays to help you visualize your dream.
